In Latin America and the Caribbean, millions of women and women of childbearing potential continue to face barriers to safe and legal abortion. Some are forced to risk their lives with unsafe procedures; others are criminalized during obstetric emergencies or for making decisions about their own bodies.
However, our region has also shown that hope flourishes when the struggle is collective. It has witnessed historic advances: from the green tide that achieved the decriminalization of abortion in Argentina, to the constitutional court rulings in Colombia and Mexico that paved the way for reproductive justice.
In this context, and in the framework of the Global Day of Action for Access to Safe and Legal Abortion (September 28), Ipas LAC is launching a digital fundraising campaign to raise money for safe and legal abortion.Ipas LAC launches the digital fundraising campaign “Let’s Transform the World”an initiative that seeks to raise $200,000 Mexican pesos to continue promoting legal changes, accompanying feminist networks and strengthening health systems in the region to ensure full recognition of sexual and reproductive rights.
A campaign for action and hope
The campaign is based on a clear message: transforming the world is a collective act between citizens, organizations and decision-makers; therefore, it invites people to join in through four lines of action to make it a reality:
- Let us transform the world through laws, demanding from States public policies, regulatory frameworks and sustainable budgets that ensure the equal exercise of sexual and reproductive rights.
- Let us transform the world with verified information, counteracting stigma, debunking myths and vindicating the right to decide based on autonomy, dignity and justice.
- Let us transform the world through alliances that strengthen joint work and the exchange of knowledge and learning to amplify the demand for reproductive justice.
- Let’s transform the world by supporting the cause. Every donation adds up, and is also a form of resistance and advocacy.
A present that we can change
The September 28 is not just a date on the calendar. It is a reminder that the exercise of the right to decide belongs to all women and people with the possibility of gestation.
On this date, we reaffirm our commitment to social transformation, in the certainty that another present is possible: one in which the freedom to decide and exercise reproductive autonomy is respected and guaranteed. Because when we transform the world collectively, we make it fairer, more equal and freer.
