We strengthened and expanded the work of various organizations and networks of accompaniers in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Ecuador, El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Nicaragua and Costa Rica, with the aim of improving access to safe abortion.

In response to increased restrictions on abortion in the United States, we support the creation and expansion of cross-border networks that provide information and manage resources to serve women and women of childbearing capacity in situations of migration.

Through this process, legislators strengthened their understanding of abortion as an essential health service and developed advocacy skills to sustain this approach, both in the legislative debate and in the media.

Thanks to these alliances, Navigating the Green Tide continues to position itself as a unique space for advancing towards more just, evidence-based regulatory frameworks focused on the rights of women and people who are able to gestate.

Strengthened Good Practice Centers: abortion and contraception training for health professionals

The strategy for strengthening health services is based, among other actions, on the creation and graduation of Good Practice Centers (CBP) in Comprehensive Abortion Care (CAC), Post Abortion Care (PAC) and Contraception. This strategy ensures that the health system has units that function as training centers for other health professionals and its model of care is an example to be replicated in other health units. We have strengthened 57 PBCs in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala and Mexico.

We were part of the partner organizations that accompanied the development of the Aborto Acompañado en Centroamérica (Aborto ACA) initiative, a platform that links women and people in need of an abortion in CA with the support of Mexican networks. This intermediation constitutes an indirect route that prioritizes the safety of both those who require a safe abortion and those accompanying them, in contexts marked by criminalization and legal restrictions.

Our Community Work Model is based on the recognition that capacities are built collectively, from the knowledge, practices and experiences of partner organizations and networks. Despite a digital environment marked by algorithmic censorship and systematic limitations on abortion and contraception content, we managed to sustain and grow Ipas LAC’s digital community. We added nearly 14,000 new followers across all of our channels, reaching a total digital community of more than 125,000 followers and generating around 300,000 interactions.
