In the state of Oaxaca, it is legal to terminate a pregnancy by free choice of the woman up to 12.6 weeks of gestation.
In addition, there are six other situations, called grounds, which allow women to have an abortion legally, without penalties and without it being considered a crime, regardless of the number of weeks of gestation.

What is legal termination of pregnancy?
The legal termination of pregnancy (ILE) is a human right guaranteed in several Mexican states, and a medical service to which every woman and pregnant woman has the right if she wishes to interrupt the gestation process. The termination of pregnancy by free choice can be requested in public or private health services, without the need to explain personal motivations, up to 12.6 weeks of gestation.

These grounds are the situations in which women can request a safe and legal abortion procedure. In these cases, health services and their staff must support them to identify and facilitate their care, without increasing the requirements indicated in the law.
Health personnel are not obliged to report or denounce women who seek abortion services or who have attempted to terminate their own pregnancies. On the contrary, they are responsible for safeguarding, under standards of confidentiality, the information they receive about the health status of individuals in the exercise of their profession.
