Legal Abortion in Mexico<\/h2>\n

In Mexico, abortion is regulated at the state level in local penal codes, under certain situations or conditions that release or exclude women or persons with the possibility of gestation from criminal liability.<\/p>\n

In Mexico, each of the 32 states establishes in its criminal legislation the circumstances under which abortion is legal in its territory. To date, the criminal laws of Mexico City, Oaxaca, Hidalgo, Veracruz, Baja California, Colima, Guerrero, Baja California Sur, Quintana Roo, Puebla, Jalisco, Michoac\u00e1n, San Luis Potos\u00ed, Chiapas, Zacatecas, Estado de M\u00e9xico, Nayarit, Campeche, Yucatan and Tabasco allow abortion at the request of the pregnant person up to 12 completed weeks of gestation, with the exception of Sinaloa which allows it up to 13 weeks and Aguascalientes which limits it to 6 weeks.<\/p>\n

After these deadlines in these entities and in the rest of the states, local criminal laws contemplate some of the following specific situations or grounds for abortion, regardless of gestational age.<\/p>\n
