Ipas Latin America and the Caribbean (Ipas LAC) presented its new governing body last Friday, October 13, during the organization&#8217;s 50th anniversary celebration. Attended by collaborators and friends, a new stage began with the presentation of the Ipas LAC Assembly as the mechanism by which the organization&#8217;s decisions are governed to ensure that all women can make their reproductive choices. <\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;This 50th anniversary celebration is very special because Ipas has gone through a transformation and part of that transformation has involved strengthening our governing bodies, becoming much stronger in our accountability mechanisms and today in celebrating these 50 years we are also introducing our new assembly of which we are very proud,&#8221;<\/em> said Maria Antonieta Alcalde, executive director of Ipas LAC.<\/p>\n<p>From October 2022 to January 2023, the stage of defining the structure and composition of our ideal governing body was developed. To this end, a committee was formed with staff representatives from all areas of Ipas LAC. This committee was prepared with previous readings, interviews with partner organizations that had similar processes, as well as a session with all staff to gather concerns and proposals. <\/p>\n<p>With the information gathered, a workshop was held to outline the governing body for Ipas LAC. It was decided to have an assembly with a minimum of two and a maximum of seven members, with regional, multicultural and intergenerational representation.<\/p>\n<p>After these criteria were stipulated, an open consultation was held with the staff so that they could send their proposals for the Assembly.
