We cannot stay in a space that does not conform to these ideals. <\/li>\n<li>We will not participate in a platform run by and for right-wing extremists; but we will continue in the struggle and in the expansion of the green tide from our other social networks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>January 20, 2025<\/strong>. As an organization that promotes social justice, we believe in democracy, human rights and access to unbiased information about sexual and reproductive health care, including abortion, as well as the right to live free from bigotry, racism and misogyny. For this reason, as of today, Monday, January 20, 2025, we will no longer participate in X (formerly Twitter).  <\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_image src=&#8221;https:\/\/ipaslac.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/X-02.png&#8221; title_text=&#8221;X-02&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.27.5&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][\/et_pb_image][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.27.5&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>While social media can be an important tool for social organizations, advocates, activists and individuals to participate, share information and create community, it is increasingly clear that the benefits of being on X are outweighed by its negative aspects. By continuing to be active on the platform, we are only condoning the actions of far-right actors who create chaos and spread hate, misinformation and anti-rights rhetoric. <\/p>\n<p><strong>We reiterate our commitment and will defend truth, human rights and democracy, especially now.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We are preparing for the next four years. With Trump installed as president of the United States, we will see a widespread increase in anti-rights policies, more restrictions on access to safe abortion at home and abroad, as well as an increase in the spread of misinformation, fake news and constant attacks on democratic ideals.<\/p>\n<p>We will not participate in a platform run by and for right-wing extremists; but we will continue in the struggle and expansion of the green tide in the region. <strong>To continue the conversation you can follow us on our other social networks: Ipas Latin America and the Caribbean on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and LinkedIn<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_divider show_divider=&#8221;off&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.27.5&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; width=&#8221;4%&#8221; max_width=&#8221;4%&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][\/et_pb_divider][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.27.5&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h2><strong>The responsibility of social networks<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Virtual platforms have a responsibility to <strong>respect human rights<\/strong>, including the right to health (such as abortion) and the right to access accurate information. This responsibility is enormous, as they have a global reach, and the consequences also impact on that scale. <\/p>\n<p>Censorship, the spread of misinformation and anti-rights rhetoric on social networks are barriers to exercising and accessing pregnancy termination.<\/p>\n<p>This is serious, as it threatens the right to health, reproductive rights, bodily autonomy and decision-making based on scientific evidence, especially in places where stigma, misinformation and laws restrict access to abortion.<\/p>\n<p>Obstructing truthful information prevents people from making informed decisions.
