The Conscientious Objection is a major barrier to access to legal abortion services in many countries, especially in Latin American countries.
In health facilities in Mexico and Bolivia, the denial of abortion services on the basis of Conscientious Objection is widespread and is used primarily for reasons other than moral, religious or ethical considerations. We examine the reasons for denial of legal abortion services in these countries and identify ways to mitigate the misuse of Conscientious Objection.
