Legal Abortion – Hidalgo
In Hidalgo, abortion is a legal health service. You have the right to safe abortion and the law protects you.
Local legislation guarantees the right to have an abortion at the free choice of the woman or pregnant woman during the first 12 weeks of gestation.
In addition, there are 7 other situations, called grounds, for which abortion is permitted legally, without penalties and without the termination of pregnancy being considered a crime, regardless of the number of weeks of gestation.
As a right in the entity, abortion services must be provided as any other health service: in conditions of quality, safety and respect for girls, adolescents, adult women and pregnant women, affiliated or not to the public health system, with privacy and confidentiality guaranteed.
Legal Interruption of Pregnancy (ILE)
In Hidalgo, access to health services for the termination of pregnancy during the first 12 weeks of gestation, regardless of the reason for the termination, is legal. This is known as legal termination of pregnancy (ile).
The abortion is a right and is performed by free decision of the woman or pregnant person. It is not necessary to provide an explanation of the reasons for the abortion within the first 12 weeks of gestation.
In addition to ile, in Hidalgo there are other grounds for abortion to be legal.
The grounds are situations for which a safe and legal abortion procedure can be requested, different from the free decision. In these cases, health services and medical personnel must support women or pregnant women to identify and facilitate their care, without increasing the requirements indicated in the law.
